5 Tips to Making Your Move Less Stressful

Moving can be time consuming, daunting and stressful. Even though there’s a hint of excitement because moving to a new house can also mean the beginning of a new chapter of one’s life. There is excitement when moving but it can also be tedious, especially if you have a lot of things that need to be moved.

The key to a less stressful move is to be organized. You need make sure that you employ careful planning to make sure that you are not overwhelmed with all the tasks that need to be accomplished. Here are five tips you can follow in order to ensure a smooth transition of moving from one place to another.

#1 - Start Packing Things as Early as Possible
Don’t keep putting things off until the last minute as that will only result in a haphazard work. It will require some extra effort but it will be worth it. You don’t have to pack everything in one go, but months before the big move, you can start packing some of your stuff already, especially those that are not really essential to your everyday life. For example, you are moving during the summer, so you can already pack and label your winter clothes so you can get that out of the way. You can carve an hour or two every week to look through your things and pack so that when the last week before the move comes, you only have a few things and furniture to pack.

#2 - Throw Away or Sell Things That You Will No Longer Need
The advantage of packing things early is that you can also do a little spring cleaning. You might be able to find things that have no place in your apartment. Sort your things into three categories, those that will stay with you on the move, those that you should just throw or give away and those that you can sell.

#3 - Label Everything Properly
Make sure that when you’ve packed your stuff, that there will be a proper label for all. This would not only make it easier for your movers in the way they handle your things, but it would also make it easier when you move into the new house. You don’t want to have to open all boxes looking for your kitchen tools after all.

#4 - Ask for Assistance
If possible, ask friends to help you with your move so that it will be less stressful for you. There are even some people who no longer hire movers because their friends own trucks and vans that can be used to transport all the things to the new house. This would be smart if you were on a tight budget.

#5 - Don’t Forget to Change Your Address
This is very important and something you need to do before you move. You want to make sure that all your mail and bills will be forwarded to your new address. It’s an easy process as you can apply for it online. Just go to change-of-address-online.com to fill out the form for processing.
