Lack of sleep can make you moody and irritable for the entire day. It can make you grumpy and force you to adopt tactics to avoid any responsibilities. These habits could produce a serious negative impact on your career and may even result in the loss of job. It could just mark the beginning of a downturn of joy in your life and make you prone to depression.

Lack of proper sleep can affect the balance of certain hormones in your body. It can change the biological clock of your body and alter the ways by which some hormones and chemicals are produced and released at different times of the day. This can hamper the metabolic processes such as digestion, breakdown of sugars, and regulation of blood pressure. This can increase your risk of frequent indigestion, diabetes, and hypertension thus increasing your worries about health resulting in depression.

Lack of proper sleep can also weaken your immune system and reduce the ability of your mind and body to respond to stressful situations. This is another common factor that can link insomnia with a higher incidence of depression.

Depression and insomnia both are very common problems affecting us. The rising incidence of both these illnesses can be attributed to the high stress levels we are facing in our day-to-day life. It has been found that the incidence of insomnia is very high in the patients with depression and the patients with insomnia eventually fall prey to depression. Also, another fact is preventing insomnia can reduce your risk of depression. If you are already suffering from depression, taking steps to improve your sleep patterns by treatment, meditation and improving your sleep surface would have a positive impact on your mind and relieve the symptoms of depression.
