Are You Afraid of Wrinkles? Then Do This.

Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process – they form as the skin loses its natural elasticity and begins to stop springing back after our faces move into the various expressions they inhabit during the day. Not all wrinkles are created equal, of course. Wrinkles which are caused through various unhealthy habits are bad and can be staved off, but other than that, just relax and let the magic happen.

Your health and fitness goals most likely will have included wrinkle prevention before now, particularly if you are a woman. It’s never too late to stop – health should be about how good you feel, not about how young you look.

Embrace Your Look--
‘Wrinkles only exist to show where smiles have been.’ It may have been said by a fictional character (Jon) to a fiction character (Garfield), but that doesn’t make it false. Wrinkles are a sign of growing old, yes, but growing old is inevitable. Wrinkles tell the story of your life, because they follow the lines of your face. They tell a story which is entirely yours to tell, and it is a beautiful story, because it is unique to you.

Avoid Too Much Stress--
Somewhat ironically, paying too much attention to all these rules about how we aren’t supposed to let our wrinkles show on penalty of social suicide can cause a lot of stress, and stress is something which can cause premature wrinkling. There’s a lot you can do about that. Not all of the advice that people give you is bad – staying hydrated is good, as is using a good moisturizer, and keeping your skin clean.

Don’t do these things because you want to fit into stupid beauty standard though – do it because it is good for your skin, and therefore good for you (since the skin is the biggest organ in the body, keeping it clean and well-tended is good for your overall health). Wrinkles are natural; embrace them!

Know That You Have Lived--
Wrinkles are a sign that you have lived – a live well-lived is something to be proud of. When you think about all the people who are more terrified of wrinkles than they are of skin cancer, and of all the people who have been putting on anti-aging lotion since before they were even young, it can be very depressing. What is wrong with seeing that you have lived your life, and lived it well?

Life is precious, and wonderful. Wrinkles are a testament to the lives we have lived, and to what we have learned along the way. Wrinkles are inevitable, but they do not have to immediately be thought of as ugly. Every wrinkle tells its own story, and shows a memory that is waiting to be shared by the one who carries it on their face.

Wrinkles are nothing to be afraid of, and the sooner we get used to that, the happier everyone will be.
