3 Tips For Grooming Your Chihuahua With Scissors

I know that a lot of you are dog lovers, but for those of you that aren't aware, a Chihuahua is a small-dog breed that possesses a unique appearance. It can be found either sporting a short coat or boasting of a long coat. Although the long-haired Chihuahua rarely grows hair after they reaches their maximum potential, their hair must still be trimmed and groomed for hygienic purposes. Now, you can either use proper pet shears or scissors to groom your Chihuahua; however, it is much easier said than done. Luckily, you won't have to face many obstacles as we have listed 3 tips to help you groom your Chihuahua with scissors.
However, before grooming your dog, it is of extreme importance for you to ensure that your Chihuahua isn't scared of the process. You need to make the grooming process a fun experience for your Chihuahua. So, how can you achieve this? Well, before starting the grooming process, you need to ensure that your Chihuahua is used to you touching their sensitive parts such as the feet. You can also let your pet become less fearful of the process by letting him/her sniff the grooming tools, and while they are at it, you can pat their back to impart a positive experience.
When grooming your Chihuahua, it is important to keep the sessions short. There might be occasions which will require you to restrain your pet to initiate the grooming process, but be advised that doing so is not a long-term solution. You will need to provide your Chihuahua with adequate training to get rid of their fears.
Tip #1 - Start Early
When is the best time to start the grooming process? As early as possible! Doing this will allow your Chihuahua to acclimatize to the grooming process and prevent them from resisting the sessions. Basically, the sooner you start the grooming process, the less likely your Chihuahua is to oppose when they grows older.
Tip #2 - Decide on the Grooming Tools
Firstly, it is essential for you to decide on the grooming tools. Would it be better to use proper pet shears or is it fine if you use a pair of scissors? If you are relatively new at grooming a Chihuahua, we would recommend you to use pet shears. However, if you are confident of cutting your Chihuahua's hair to an appropriate length with the use of scissors, you can use scissors, too. You can choose to use whatever you are most comfortable with.
Tip #3 - Cutting Length
When grooming your pet, you are advised to lift the Chihuahua's tail with your hand, preventing the dog from tucking their tail between their legs. You should primarily focus on cutting the hair on the Chihuahua's posterior end; it should be cut short (to only ½ inch). In addition to that, you should trim the hair around the Chihuahua's mouth and neck to only ¼ inch. Doing this will help the Chihuahua eat properly without getting dirty.
