One of the main difficulties for any homeowner is keeping the place tidy. No matter what kind of place you have, you have probably come upon this difficulty at one point or another. Part of the difficulty lies in the home not being properly designed for having many belongings. If you are keen to see yourself in a tidier home, then there are some essential steps you should take. The first is to do your best to remove the clutter around the home. This in itself, for many people, can be a therapeutic thing to do. However, if you are like many people, this will not be enough. If you clear your house of all the clutter you can and still find that you don’t have much space, then you might want to take more active steps. There are, fortunately, many more things you can do, many of which are more permanent solutions. And that can be very welcome when you just want to introduce a bit of tranquility into the home. Let’s take a look at some simple, but effective, solutions to your home storage problems.
In the Kitchen---
The kitchen is a common culprit for clutter. In many households, it is the kitchen which ends up being the dumping ground for any random bits and pieces which may be lying around. This is particularly so for families or those with children running around. The first step, then, is to reclaim the kitchen for what it was meant for - cooking! If you live with others, it might be a good idea to make a point of this. Make the kitchen a no-clutter zone for everybody. You will be amazed at how quickly this changes the whole room. Moreover, consider making the most of the space with some clever storage ideas. You could hang a line for utensils to hang from above the workstations, for example. Alternatively, use that freed up space to build some Steel shelving. This will likely be sturdy enough to hold many pots and pans, but without taking up too much space.
In the Garden---
This is now the perfect time of year to start thinking about the garden. If you are like most people, your garden probably became quite overgrown over the winter period. However, all is not lost. If you are anything like me, you will probably have great fun tidying up the garden. The fact is, this is one area - much like the kitchen - which tends to really gather a lot of unnecessary items and rubbish. If that is the case for your garden, then take a weekend to sort through it. A good place to start is with the shed. Clear that of anything which doesn’t belong there. Then, you will have space for anything you might find in the garden that you want to keep. After that, it is a simple matter of some basic housekeeping. Make the garden look pretty in readiness for the summer. This alone makes a huge difference to the house.
In the Bedroom---
Your bedroom probably experiences just as much untidiness as anywhere else in the house. Therefore, consider using the space under your bed for storage. You can even invest in a new bed which offers considerably more storage space. Beyond that, it is a matter of thinking about multi-use furniture - the kind that doubles up as storage space. With a little forward-thinking and intelligence, you can make the home a dream in no time at all.
