My Review of the Ozeri Salad Spinner

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Designed in Switzerland and boasting friction-less spin action, the effortless BPA-free Ozeri FRESHSPIN Salad Spinner delivers unparalleled performance and ease-of-use. The Ozeri FRESHSPIN Salad Spinner's features a large 4.2 qtr./4 L colander that accommodates all your greens and herbs. The 5.5 qtr./5.2 L bowl doubles as an elegant serving dish. Perhaps the easiest salad spinner ever made, the Ozeri Salad Spinner requires no more than 2 or 3 pumps to reach its max spin velocity without the disruptive noise common among other spinners. Simply push once on the large brake button to instantly halt the spinning and remove the colander. The colander and bowl can be used separately and are both dishwasher-safe. The Ozeri FRESHSPIN Salad Spinner's handle locks into place for quick storage."

I was sent the Freshspin Salad Spinner from Ozeri to review.

The price for this set is ~ $26.00. It ships free with Amazon Prime.

You can also get this at a bunch of different retailers.  For example, check out Wayfair, Walmart, or Sears!

Packaging & Presentation of the Ozeri Salad Spinner
The salad spinner arrived in excellent condition.  The box was very colorful and full of information.  Everything inside was intact and ready to use.

The front of the box labeled the brand and product and provided a nice visual of the spinner.  The back describes what this does in three different langues (Eng, Fr, and Es).  You can also find the model number, UPC, and contact information.

The right side of the box outlined some important features of the salad spinner:

+ Super fast spinning action with instant stop button
+ Ergonomic pump handle for smooth and easy function
+ 2-in-1: colander spins greens dry, clear bowl is the serving piece
+ Non-slip base
+ Made of food safe materials
+ Bowl and colander are dishwasher safe
+ 2-year guarantee for noncommercial use

The left side of the box provides a step-by-step operation guide with pictures.

The top features a large brand logo as it labels the specific product.  The box opens with a locking flip top.

The salad spinner was packed very snugly inside, and nothing was mobile.  It unpacked easily and was easy to put together.

There was also a small printed piece that outlined the same basics as the box.

My Personal Experience with the Ozeri Salad Spinner

A salad spinner has always been on my list of things to add to my kitchen.  I love making salads at home-- it's more cost effective and you can really make them as healthy (or unhealthy!) as you'd like.  A salad spinner is the best way to get the 'fluffy' lettuce and not have it filled with water and be soppy and limp.

The spinner consists of three parts:  the bowl, the colander, and the spinning top.  The bowl has a cone-shaped holder that the colander fits into.

The lid is basically the handle (with a lock/unlock slide) and a stop button.  The handle flips up and pushes down in order to spin your salad and locks in the down position for easy storage.

I made a very basic salad just to try this out:  iceberg, cheese, and dressing.

I put my lettuce inside the colander and pressed the handle down about 3-4 times and then hit the stop button.  This worked like a brake and really released the water.

Next, add your ingredients!  Don't be like me-- do this after you put the lettuce in the serving bowl!  I had to dump everything in afterward.  In the end you are left with a delicious salad that looks appetizing!

Pros of the Ozeri Salad Spinner
  • Large enough to hold a lot of greens.
  • Easy to store thanks to the folding/locking handle.
  • You only need to spin this 3-4 times for maximum water removal.
  • Very well made.
  • The bowl actually doubles as a serving bowl.
Cons of the Ozeri Salad Spinner
  • The slide lock is kind of difficult to slide.

This has been wonderful!  Actually, it's all that I have ever wanted in a salad spinner.  This is one durable spinner, and everything about it is awesome.  I thought it was going to take a lot more to remove the excess water, but it really only took about 3-4 presses of the simple handle.  It doesn't make a loud winding noise, either.  I definitely recommend this.
