My Review of Outer Spice

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Outer Spice low salt and no salt seasoning blends provide an out-of-this-world sensory adventure, making every dish taste better than you ever thought it could.
Creatively made with care--
Whether you're a culinary expert or novice in the kitchen, Outer Spice will make you feel like a master chef. You couldn't ruin the taste of the dish even if you tried."

I was sent a 3.0 oz bottle of the Spicy (No Salt) blend, and a 3.75 oz bottle of the Original (Low Himalayan Sea Salt) blend from Outer Spice to review.

The price for each bottle is $6.99.  You can buy these online at their web store, or you can find them in select Whole Foods stores.

Packaging & Presentation of Outer Spice

These bottles arrived to me in perfect condition.  Each bottle is made of a clear plastic with a black flip-top shaker cap.  The bottles measure approximately 5.5" x 1.75". If you look beyond the label, you can see through to the actual product. The labels are color-coded, meaning you can quickly look at the label's color to determine which blend you want at that time.  There are four options to choose from.  In this case, I got a spicy one without salt, and an original one with a low amount of salt.

Beginning with the spicy one (you know, since I'm partial to spicy things!)-- the front labels the brand, product, and sizing information.  It also outlines a few key features:

+ Healthy
+ Gluten-free
+ Natural Antioxidants
+ No Salt

This label is green.

The right side of the label details a bit more about the following:  Why this blend is good for you, the quality, and the taste.  The website information, distributor information, and UPC are also found here.  The left side of the label provides a list of the all natural ingredients and nutrition facts. This contains absolutely no MSG.

Next, we have the Original Blend-- the front labels the brand, product, and sizing information.  It also outlines a few key features:

+ Healthy
+ Gluten-free
+ Natural Antioxidants
+ Made with Himalayan Sea Salt

This label is yellow on this one.

The other parts of the label contain the same exact information (beyond the ingredients list) as the spicy blend.

Each cap is black and made of plastic.  There are (5) small shaker holes on each top.  Be sure to take off the foiled freshness seal before trying to use them!

My Personal Experience with Outer Spice

This is the first time that I have ever reviewed something like this.  That's kind of strange, because I use things like this ALL of the time!  Since moving to Georgia, I haven't been able to frequent a Whole Foods (or any other like-store for that matter) in years.  Being able to try this and enjoy the benefits has been a breath of fresh air.

First, I wanted to show you a little close-up of the ingredient components. The pieces are large, and due to that-- packed with flavor!

The best way that I found to test these out (beyond actually just straight tasting them) was to cook and use them as an ingredient with chicken.  SO...I pulled some ingredients (I just grabbed some and made this up as I went along here...).  Looks it is pretty hodgepodge to me!

I used the liquids and made a random marinade that I pounded into the chicken and let it soak a little bit.

While that was soaking, I crunched up some cornflakes and added the spicy blend to it.

I put everything together, and fried it up!

After cooking, I added some of the Original blend to it for a quick instant-seasoning.

Pros of Outer Spice
  • Versatile-- you can do so much with this!
  • Four different options/flavors to choose from.
  • Works great alone or on a variety of foods.
  • Gives more dimension than plain ol' salt and pepper.
  • Price is very fair and competitive.

      Cons of Outer Spice
      • I haven't found any cons of these spices!

Beyond doing this review, I actually did learn a lot.  I received a sheet of facts as well as a press release from Outer Spice in my package, and I did a little extra research. I was amazed that something as little as spices can be beneficial to your health.  Why would you put salt and pepper on your food when they lack so many nutritional benefits that these incorporate into your diet with just a little shake? I love the options here-- I usually go for the spicy, but if you need something to give your food a little 'oomph' (like broccoli and green beans...) the original packs a pretty big punch!  I definitely recommend these.
