..::Review + Giveaway::.. Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box - May

My Review of the May Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Each month a fully designed project kit arrives in a delightful box filled with stamps, ink, and paper—everything cut and ready to go so you can skip to the fun. Just think of it as creativity in a box."

I was sent the May 2015 box from Stampin' Up to review.

The price for a 1-month subscription is $19.95.  A neat quality about Paper Pumpkin is that you can increase the number of kits per month.  If you are having a crafting party, you can order one kit per attendee in the same master order.

Packaging & Presentation of the May Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

I was pretty excited to come home and see a little red Paper Pumpkin box sitting in the mailbox!  The exterior box is red and baby blue, and it is small enough to fit into a standard mailbox.  It measures 10.0" x 6.5" x 1.75".The side of the box says, "You're moments away from your escape..." and the bottom of the box is labeled 'Stampin' Up'.

When I opened the box, I was introduced to a tissue paper wrapped box of goodies (sealed with a cute Paper Pumpkin sticker!) with a subscription introduction pamphlet.  The inside of the box also completed the statement from the exterior with, "...Run away with me."  This month, I found a referral coupon for 50% the first two months.  If you are interested, and (I highly recommend this box) want the coupon code, used SHARETHEFUN upon checking out.  This will give you 50% off for your first two months!

The first layer of unwrapping revealed this month's (May) stamp set, and (1) Classic Stampin' Spot in 'Island Indigo'.

The final layer housed the actual May kit, 'Birthday Bundle'.

The main title sheet provides a quick run-down of what you need to do, and it also opens up for a few more detailed instructions.  What I like about Paper Pumpkin, is that they also provide YouTube video demonstrations on how to create the months' craft.  It is a helpful assistant, one in which I used! You can view this month's video above.

My Personal Experience with the May Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

After unpacking everything, I was certainly ready to start creating!  First, before anything, I unpacked the actual kit and sat down and watched the YouTube video so I got an idea of what I was supposed to do (I'm a visual learner).

I've done quite a few crafts from Paper Pumpkin, and this is the first one that I've done that had two separate crafts.  Both creations can be used together, so it's a double whammy.  I was so excited to get started.

I began with the gift bag.  I used my acrylic block to stamp tail strings on the cutout balloons.

After that, I stamped 'Celebrate' on the ribbon, 'To/From' on the tag, and 'Happy Birthday' on the circle.

The next step is to fold a piece of the yellow tissue paper and use it as a backing for the cutout balloons.  I had to redo this part a few times because I could never get it just right.

Now, roll up your gift in another sheet of tissue paper, and stuff it into the bag.  I decided to use a candle here because, frankly-- they are my favorite!

Next, cut the long rope into (4) four equal pieces.

Then, string it through all of the wholes and tie it into a bow!

Use the two-sided dimensionals to stick the 'Celebrate' ribbon onto the balloon, and then the balloon onto the bag.

After the bag, it's time to work on the birthday card.  I stamped a balloon with tail onto the front right corner.

Then, if you have two-sided tape put it on the back of the rectangle cutout.  Now, I didn't have two-sided tape, so I just rolled regular tape into cylinders.  That works just fine, too.

Stick this right onto the front of the card.

After that, I added dimensionals to the back of the 'Happy Birthday' circle and stuck it onto the front and center of the card.

Stuff the card into the envelope...

...and you will have the most adorable gift!

Pros of the May Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box
  • Everything is included.  There is no need to run to the craft store for anything that you may have forgot.
  • Each month brings a new craft, right to your door.
  • The crafts have detailed instructions including video instructions.
  • Everybody needs birthday bags/cards.  This is SO cute to have on hand.
  • I had a lot of fun with this kit, because you can do so much with it.  In fact, you can manipulate these crafts and do what works for you.

Cons of the May Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box
  • I wish this months box came with a few pieces of double-sided tape to stick the rectangle cutout onto the front of the card.

These kits are pretty flawless.  They run smooth and simple.  I absolutely loved this month's box.  The craft is so bright and cheerful.  There is always an occasion that I can use either the bag or the card-- or even both together.  I had a lot of fun with both the gift bag and the card.  I felt that they were really thought out well and designed perfectly.
