My Review of Dream Team Pets (Magical Cat)

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Raising an independent child begins at night. Dream Team Pets are both a fun toy for your child and an important tool for helping parents develop sleep independence. Find out exactly what sleep independence is, and how a Dream Team Pet can help your child be well on their way to a peaceful night.

Your child’s Dream Team Pet is their best ally for a good night’s sleep. Whichever Pet you choose, your child will develop sleep independence and learn to sleep soundly as they train their pet to watch over them at night.

Magical Cat isn’t scared of much, and she’s great at helping little ones feel brave and courageous. This kitty is curious and smart, but always wants to make her owner feel safe and secure at night."

I was a sent a Dream Team Pet (Magical Cat) from Dream Team Pets to review.
The price for the Magical Cat is $19.99, and $6.99 for shipping.  I am also offering a 30% coupon code below!

Packaging & Presentation of Dream Team Pets (Magical Cat)

The Magical Cat arrived in a box, packaged along with a certificate of training, (14) foiled gold stars, and a small hardcover Dream Team Pets book.

The Magical Cat was wrapped separately in its own plastic sleeve.  The certificate was in perfect condition as it was supported by a cardboard backing.  The book and the gold star sheet were packaged along with the certificate.

The Magical Cat itself is really cute!  She is very soft and you can see that it is made with care.  The front of the cat features the 'Dream Team' Pet badge!   The back of the cat features a long tail.

There is also a series of tags attached to the Magical Cat.  The first tag is the distribution tag, the second tag is the material tag, and the third tag is the model tag.  I'm not a fan of tags, so I usually just cut them off.

The book is where all of the magic happens.  The book is hardcover, and smaller than I imagined it would be.  It is not very lengthy, which is perfect for a quick bedtime story.

The book pages are numbered (1-7), and feature a fill in cover.  Your child can write the name of their pet, the date of which they began training, completion of their pet training, and their pet badge number, which is found on the certificate.

The certificate is really neat in itself as it features 7 blank stars at the top of a Dream Team Pet Badge.  For each night that your child's Dream Team Pet helped them sleep at night, your child can affix one gold star to fill it in.  When their pet has helped them sleep for seven nights, pet training is complete!

My Personal Experience with Dream Team Pets (Magical Cat)

First, I would like to say that I love this idea.  My son is 6, and I've been having a hard time getting him to sleep by himself.

The Dream Team Pet is wonderful.  He was able to pick out the pet that he liked the most (his favorite was a cat), and I explained to him that he has to train the cat to protect him at night.  The story aligns with the concept, and it gives greater detail for your child.

My son loves to read, so he likes to read the story to his little sister.  She loves it.

...She also loves playing with the Magical Cat!  I'm going to have to buy another one when she's old enough.

Pros of Dream Team Pets (Magical Cat)
  • Rewards work.  Even something as simple as placing a star on a certificate is motivation enough for a child to continue towards goal accomplishment.
  • This system really works, and can be used time again as needed.
  • There are 3 pets to choose from:  a cat, puppy, or lion.
  • Definitely a reasonable price compared to other methods of sleep training.
  • Lets your child completely personalize the experience.
Cons of Dream Team Pets (Magical Cat)
  • The kit did not come with a parent's guide for using this tool effectively.
  • I wish the book would be a little bit bigger in size.

If you are working hard with your child and trying to find a way to assist in your child's learning to sleep independently, The Dream Team Pets can be your lifesaver.  The reason that this works is because you put the training in your child's hands without them being aware of it.  This system provides both children and parents with the satisfaction of independent learning.  If you happen to have a real cat, check out Selfpetcare.com for some friendly information on caring for your pet!
